From Lee Stephens, Tucson, AZ

I was one of the field engineers in the Minneapolis reperf center cutover.  I recently ran across the attached photo which I took sometime during that period: 1948 summer and fall.

I was based in Oakland, but sent to Minneapolis in July 1948 and later that year to Los Angeles for its cutover.  As part of that cutover traveled all over Arizona and New Mexico helping at the out-stations.

Those were the good old days, I guess!

From the winter of 1951-2

I was assigned to the cutover of the private line switching center (Plan 51?) WU installed for the Air Force at McClellan Air Force Base near Sacramento, California.  The photo at right is a view of the swiching aisle.  The photo below is a view of the carrier test board for the co-located carrier system.  By the way, I did have permission from the commanding officer to take these pictures!

We has a class 1 panic one day when all our carrier channels went dead.  The CO was fit to be tied, especially when he discovered that the base construction crew had dug into the main cable when they put in a traffic stop sign just outside the building.
