AN EXPENSIVE MAILGRAM FROM 1979

George Abrams of Miami submitted the mailgram shown below.  This mailgram is one of the most expensive in the history of the service.

In April 1979 a Western Union stockholders meeting was held in Miami.

To demonstrate this potential new service to those attending the meeting an estimated $500,000 was expended establishing a satellite receiving station at the downtown Miami central office to receive this message in real time.  This one message is the only traffic ever handled on that satellite link.
