The History Place, 1008 Arendell Street, Morehead City, North Carolina, right on the Crystal Coast. Museum is open Tuesday through Sunday 10:30 to 4:30. Telephone 252-247-7533. Exhibit was placed in 2001 when new museum building was completed. Exhibit includes patch cord panel with Morse items and two resonator boxes all in working condition. Table includes manual perforator, tape transmitter-distributor with tape winder, Model 2-B printer and page printer, all in working condition. Other items include a Model 5605 test unit, WU typewriter, clock and other items found in a small Class A office or a CL9C agency. Museum has extensive library holdings and numerous WU items are shelved there.The former WU reperforator center and Division office building in Kansas City was closed in 1972. This four story building is now a professional rental building and the present owner is Watkins & Company, 100 E. 7th Street, Kansas City, MO 64106. Telephone 816-421-1130. Building and exhibit is open Monday to Friday, 9:00 to 5:00. Exhibits include the complete direct current control panels which were relocated from the sub-basement to the entry corridor, wall mounts of numerous telegraph blanks both counter and pasting blanks, and a wall mount photo of the 4th floor switching aisle. Operating equipment include a Deskfax, typing repreforator, Telex I and a Model 2-B teleprinter.
The display formerly at the Piedmont Carolina Railroad Museum has been relocated to the Cherryville Historical Museum at 208 West Main Street, Cherryville, NC telephone 704-435-8011. Visitor hours are Friday 10-2, Saturday 10-3 and Sunday 2-5. Cherryville is northwest of Gastonia on Route 150, a short distance from I-85. The exhibit was in place at Belmont since 1988. More then 20,000 visitors had registered there. Included are Morse sounders and keys with swing arm resonator box and other Morse items. There are two all-capital-letter WU typewriters, a Model 2-B tape printer, a Telex I, a page printer and a cord-and-plug patch panel all in working condition.
