During 1970, ACS (AK Communications System - Toll Company) installed their first Siemens Telex Switches (TWK-D Tandem and a subscriber- concentrator switch) and I enjoyed the distinction of being the only person in the state who had Telex switch-room experience and was able to head-up the implementation of that service, attend client interactions and with our service Center at Helena, MT.  Also had occasion to become reacquainted with some long-lost WU buddies in Chicago and visited the San Francisco WU Telex Center which (as I recall) had several floors of Telex switch-rooms.

Shortly after ACS's system of 4-served areas became fully operational, USAF sold the Toll Company to RCA Service Co., at which time I opted to work for the municipally owned telco, Anchorage Telephone Utility from which I retired in December of 1992.

I encountered this site while performing a search for several long- ago WU co-workers.  While I found a few such persons, there is one fellow, in particular whom I would love to locate/contact - if he is still living.  When I last communicated with him, he was working in the Telex exchange of the Chicago WU office.  His name is Ed and my best recollection is that his last-name is Mobley, or some variation thereof and my recall may well be in error.

Ed was my first Telex-teacher, during my tenure in the Indianapolis WU office during the period of 1962 thru late 1964.  He was more senior than myself, so he may no longer be among us... Another unfound IQ (Indianapolis) contact is a fellow young-buck new- hire (in 1962) is a fellow by the name of Bob Proctor and another fellow who's last name is Shehan (or some variation thereof).   Another fellow who finished my Telex training at the Omaha WU office and his first name is Lyle and I fail to recall his last name.

I suppose that your access to such info is limited to the resources of your web pages and I have repeatedly screened the retiree page, from which I gleaned three former co-workers and the alumni page which produced none.

I must commend you and your co-workers for that which you do.  These sites are a valuable resource to present and past employees.  My hat is off to you, Sir.

Best wishes,

Chuck Jones
